On September 21, 2015, HBHA students and poetry enthusiasts Lauren Hassan, Ezra Smith, and Joel Gutovitz with English instructor R. Gina Renee were spotted at Kevin Coval’s hip-hop poetry reading from his new book “Schtick” in the White Theatre at the Jewish Community Center, Overland Park, KS. Coval is a Jewish slam poet and educator who is passionate about Judaism, hip hop culture, and giving underrepresented American youth a voice. Coval is the cofounder of the annual youth poetry festival “Louder Than a Bomb,” which will be returning to Kansas City in the spring of 2015. Who knows, maybe Team Ram Slam will make its first showing at the festival?
