When grey winter clouds roll away and bright spring buds appear, it can only mean one thing: Girls soccer season at Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy (HBHA) has begun. Girls soccer, along with every other HBHA sport, is unique in that it gives every student the opportunity to be a part of the team. It is incredible that so many committed middle school and upper school students are interested in soccer this spring.

The middle school girls’ team is coached by Science Department Head Cody Welton. Welton has coached the girls and boys teams for the past few years and says that he “enjoy[s] watching the players master a new skill they have been working hard on.”

Sixth grader Annika Lowland says that, “I love how included I feel as a part of the team.”

The high school team is coached by Middle School English, Social Studies, and Science teacher Rebecca Glueck. The assistant coach is Cody Welton. This year’s team has a strong contingency of freshmen which will ensure a close knit unit for years to come.

Starting forward, freshman Julia Paul, says that, “I was wonderfully surprised by how welcoming and inclusive each upperclassman was.”

The Lady Rams currently have one win, one tie, and three losses. The captains of the team, Seniors Moriah Abrams and Brynn Shaffer, “are looking forward to their teammates communicating better on and off the field and to more fun games to come.”

HBHA is so lucky to have incredible girls soccer teams to brighten our spring days.
